SERVICE PROVIDERS:
- Jamie Els usually assist with both operations.
Surgical ~ stents are made to direct and plan the placement of the implants.
At the Laboratory, we will manufacture and fit the Ear Prosthesis ± 3-4
months after surgery.
- Implant Supply Company will provide the
Hospital and Jamie Els with the necessary implants and components.
- Anaesthetist and Hospital.
- Attending surgeon, assisted by Jamie Els. The
first stage of surgery is to place three osseointegrated implants. The
second stage (± 3 months later) is to expose the implants.
- After successful osseointegration of implants, we
start the construction of the Auricular prosthesis. Implant components
are
ordered for the ear implants.
MANUFACTURING:
- Take impressions of the position of implants.
- Cast models with impression of Implant Analogs.
- The design and construction of the dolar bar with is
cast in titanium, gold or non-precious metal alloys.
- Then fit to the abutments by gold screws.
- Acrylic superstructure is constructed to fit over the
dolar bar with Gold or Teflon clips in the correct position.
- The prosthesis is carved in wax and tried on the
patient. Changes are made till the patient is satisfied.
- The waxed-up prosthesis is placed on the
superstructure and dolar bar and then waxed down. All the finer details on
the prosthesis gets done.
- Flasked moulds are made of the prosthesis, wax is
boiled out leaving the ear-mould ready for packing.
- Packing and colouring of Silicone Elastomer is done
with patient present to ensure correct coloring.
- The packed silicone ear prosthesis is then put under
pressure for ± 12 hours.
- The ear prosthesis is removed from the moulds, trimmed
and the finer details done.
- Comparing the colour to the patients other ear.
- Dolar bar is placed on patient and the final ear
prosthesis is fitted.
- Instructions on how to clean and maintain the
prosthesis is given out.
An Auricular prosthesis
should be replaced every 3/4 years.
